This is a game mechanic prototype developed during XR Creator Con 2024 Berlin. It was made by four people, in 2.5 days. (memebers, how to and known bugs below)

Inspiration

The buildup, the cut, the aftermath. We were inspired by a common power fantasy, where a single sword strike can split open the earth, sea and sky. Our aim within this project was to recreate this feeling of power in VR and allow players to feel like the badass sword wielder they've always wanted to be.

What it does

Our game is a short but sweet experience where players can hack and slash at their environment, guided by an ever-present ethereal voice. Players can cut, dice and mince the objects around them leading them to increasingly absurd and fantastical targets.

How we built it

Our game was built in Unity and uses a custom cutting algorithm in order to split the meshes.

How to Play

You can either run the windows built or Meta Quest Android. This was only tested on Meta Quest 3, both on Windows as well as Standalone. To cut, you press the trigger. While holding the trigger, draw your cut in the air, once you let go of the trigger the slice will  fly in the direction of your cut. 

Fir cut the pine apple three times, then you can cut other stuff.

Once you cut the final set piece, the level will restart in 15 seconds.

Known Bugs: The game crashes if you cut a lot of stuff really fast, restart the game in this case. Alot of audio will play in one go at the end of the level. Some times the cutting algo creates weird faces. If you proceed through the episode really fast the narrator voice can overlap on top of eachother.
